Adele Mash Up on Glee - Rumor Has It/Someone Like You

Throwback: 21st Birthday in DC

Day 15: Your Zodiac/Horoscope and If You Think It Fits Your Personality

Cancer
Deeply intuitive and sentimental, Cancer can be one of the most challenging Zodiac signs to get to know. Emotion runs strong for this sign, and when it comes to family and home, nothing is more important. Sympathetic and empathetic, Cancerians are greatly attuned to those around them. Devotion is the keyword for this sign, making them wonderfully sensitive people to be around.

Strengths:
Compassion, emotional sensitivity, fierce protection of loved ones, tenacity.
Weaknesses:
Manipulative, indirect conflict, clinging to the past, insecure, packrat.
Charismatic marks:
Medium build, round face, prominent breasts, a tendency to take charge.
Likes:
Relaxing near or in water, art, home-based hobbies, a good meal with friends, helping loved ones.
Dislikes:
Strangers, revealing of personal life, any criticism of Mom.
Best environment:
Cancer will always be most comfortable at home, close to family, familiar things, and dear friends.

Well surprisingly based on this particular definition I would have to say it matches my personality pretty well. Im not a zodiac/horoscope person who depends on and believes in it but I do think they can sometimes be interesting to read. Being the psych major that I am, I see horoscopes in relation to the whole "self fufilling prophecy" idea where you read the horoscope and think something is going to happen therefore you look for it and when something remotely happens thats similar you're like "ah hah!". The future is so unpredictable that we find comfort in being able to read what is going to happen or have some reassurance of who we are. We like to label ourselves so much because identity is so important to us. Another reason I don't buy into the whole horoscope thing is because people are so variable and diverse that coming up with a few categories and placing millions of people under each category and saying they are all like "this" and that "this" will happen to exactly all of them on any given day makes no sense. But people are easily manipulated because we are so self centered. When we read horoscopes we aren't thinking "so 5 million of us cancers are going to meet our true love today" we are thinking "omg I am going to meet my true love today". It seems silly but we know we do that all the time. Its okay to enjoy reading things like this - its fun too - but I wouldn't take them too seriously as I believe the only one in charge of who you are, how your day is, who you meet and fall in love with is yourself.

Killing Us Softly 4

I highly recommend both women AND men to watch this series by Jean Kilbourne. I've seen this series twice now during my college career and still find it just as fascinating the second time around as I did the first. These videos were an eye opener for me as well as a reminder to not give into these false images and ideals. I admit as educated as I am about some of these stereotypes and distorted images - I still fall prey to them on a constant basis. But watching this video in class today helped me reaffirm my confidence in my own body and to accept how I am and who I am as a real woman.

"In this update of her pioneering Killing Us Softly series, Jean Kilbourne takes a fresh look at how advertising traffics in distorted and destructive ideals of femininity. Killing Us Softly 4 stands to challenge a new generation of students to take advertising seriously, and to think critically about popular culture and its relationship to sexism, eating disorders, and gender violence."

Day 13: Your Opinion About Your Body and How Comfortable You Are With It

I've have my good days and bad days when it comes to how I feel about my body and how comfortable I feel with it.

On my good days I love my body. I appreciate my curves. I adore my smile. I love my hair. I like my complexion. And Im just fine with my height.

On my bad days I absolutely hate my body. Im disgusted with my curves. I hide my smile. I hate my hair. I cant stand my complexion. And Im frustrated with my height.

I'm normally pretty sure and confident with myself but I cant say im always loving or comfortable with my body. Sure there are things i'd like to change or days I wish I could change everything - but there are also days when I love everything about myself. Days where I want to show myself off to the world and days where I want to hide at home in my sweats all day. I've learned to accept myself but that doesn't mean im not self-conscious. I do care about what others think but I've also learned when its alright to care and when its just plain stupid to care what others think. I think my greatest struggle is with my weight. I can be very self-conscious about that. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my weight that I cant stand to look at myself in the mirror - sometimes even becoming depressed over it. But i'm very moody and my depression and self hate luckily dont last very long. Im good at picking myself back up.

I would say I am comfortable enough with my body to know I am a beautiful girl who doesn't need to worry about how big my waist is, how nice my smile is, how shiny my hair is - but how confident I can be with who I am - because that's where true beauty lies.

Enrique Iglesias  - after X Factor I was SOLD

Day 11: Your Family

Dad: the quiet, generous and demanding one. While he's very old fashioned and very high tempered, we get along pretty well and he never ceases to spoil me. My dad always used to sneak in chocolates and we'd both just eat bags full all the time (hiding from my mom). He's not very social but people seem to really respect and love my dad for his genuine personality. He's very VERY blunt and extremely biased but hes very honest when it comes to giving someone advice and will tell you how he feels without sugar coating. He's an awesome cook and loves to snack (so I blame my sugar tooth on him lol). You can almost always catch him eating some indian sweets.

Mom: the adventurous, kind and helpful one. My mom is ALWAYS doing something. Shes the type of person who absolutely cannot sit still -whether its taking up a new project, cleaning, climbing rocks or cutting down trees. Shes very emotionally independent ( I take that from her lol) and is the glue that holds my family together - not just at home but with her sisters as well. I love that my mom has such a big heart and will be the first to help someone out and go completely out of her way. She puts her heart into whatever it is she does and we all love her for it. My mom is highly respected and loved by people from work to church to the neighborhood kids.

Brother: the lazy, silly and secretly loveable one. My older brother never ceases to amaze me with his silly crazy stupid self. Hes almost like a walking contradiction. Increadibly lazy yet he loves hikes and going out. Bad grades yet his very intelligent. Acts tough but I know he really cares about what others thinks. Says he doesnt care what I do yet hes always making sure I dont get myself into trouble. My brother likes to act very confident even though he sometimes has no idea what hes doing (and I think I get that from him lol). Hes a difficult person but people are always drawn to him and take a liking to him. He can be pretty funny and good for entertainment lol. Hes not always dependable but once you become someone he values he will go out of his way to be there for you. He's tough on me but I know he cares a lot about me.

Oscar: the sweet, loving, spoiled one. My first pet. I ADORE him. He's especially attached to me and always feels the need to be around me and I love the attention. Hes a sweetheart and always sticks by me when Im feeling sad. I have a ton of scars from him but its okay - twas a learning experience lol. Im so used to sleeping with him that I get lonely if hes not around when I go to bed. He doesnt like when I sit on the computer for too long and taps my cheek with his paws to get my attention - he even sits on my homework sometimes.

Friskey: the fat, loud and friendly one. Haha my famous cat. I dont know WHEN or HOW he managed to bloat up this much - and i apologize to him all the time but he is one happy kitty. He welcomes anyone who wants to pet him and purs loudly and happily all the time. Hes adorable but can be quite annoying when hes hungry or wants attention because he MEOWs sooooo loudly. People are always shocked and amazed when they see him - I admit I feel bad sometimes though because they are always laughing and making fun of him. I know hes HUGE but i still love the poor guy.

Family: I am so close with my moms side of the family that when I think "family" I do not simply think of my father, mother and brother but also my aunts, uncles and cousins as well. Because my mom and her 5 sisters are so close we all make sure to spend time together. My family gets together at least once a week and go on a big vacation together once a year. Every one supports one another and we always have crazy adventures - whether its tubing in the river, riding horses, sliding down water falls, climbing rocks, sleeping in tents, going hiking in bear infested forests etc. we always have a good time. We make it a point to always put family first and cherish them. In fact I look at my cousins as cousin-brothers. My aunts as my second mothers and uncles as my second fathers. When some of us go out of town or when parents are away we all make sure to take care of each others houses and to cook and send meals over to the cousins whose parents are away. Every holiday is spend at one of the sisters homes. I love my family a lot and so I doubt I'll move away in the future - I want to always be around them.

Saturday Hiking Trip @ Great Falls

The weather was so nice Saturday that me, my mom and my cousin decided to take a trip down to Great Falls and hike up the Bill Goat Trail. Apparently a lot of people had the same idea because it was really crowded. I normally hate crowds on a trail but it was well worth it.

The trail as usual was beautiful. I had to make sure to keep up with my mom and my cousin - they're so intense when it comes to hiking lol. But I enjoyed myself. Seriously feeling the soreness today though - ugh- its a good pain though... I think. Deft looking forward to more hikes soon!

Cuzzo exploring a bit - my mom tried to reach him but she fell in the river LOL "Follow me Amina!" yeahhh right! Its good I didnt!
Me relaxing a bit by the river - enjoying the nice breeze
