SP2009 has officially started since last week. And... school sucks. ::laughs::
I have assuredly brought on the socy and psyc classes this time around
and im paying for it with all the wonderful amounts of reading required
of all the classes. yay amina!
1. Psyc 307 has me appreciating the old folks more. Some of the fine points made in several articles i read were as such:
(1) Sometimes we unconsciously avoid old people simply because we are
reminded of death and aging, which we seek to avoid. "Sick people,
hospitals, and funerals destroy our illusions of invulnerability. They
force us to think of the future... If we aren't around dying people, we
don't have to think about dying". We also avoid the old and sick in
order to spare ourselves of the pain of seeing them so and then loosing
them.
(2) Culture and media impress upon us the very idea that being old is a
bad thing. For example to compliment a friend we haven't seen in a
while we are more inclined to say " you haven't aged a day!" as opposed
to "you look older". We view the old as useless and a burden.
(3) Americas obsession with independence ... "We provide almost no
graceful way for adults to ask for help, we make it almost impossible
to be dependent yet dignified, respected and in control... They dont
want to be a burden, the greatest of American crimes. In fact, the
greatest challenge for many elders is learning to accept vulnerability
ad to ask for help". Its up to the younger generation to help the older
folks realize that there are people willing to provide help that comes
from respect and gratitude as opposed to pity or hesitant obligations.
2. The weather is... confused. Its hot. cold. warm. snow. rain. warm. snow.
And as a result i find myself ill... ::sad face:: oh and im dehydrated... again ::smile::
3. My sleep schedule seems to be somewhat back on track. In bed by
midnight and up at dawn lol ahhh gatta love those morning classes with
quizzes first thing. So DON'T BE LATE.
4. While shifting positions to get more comfortable i happen to head
butt my cousins ELBOW. No, no visible bruise... yet. But it did hurt.
alot. lol ::presses forehead:: tender... ow... >_<
5. It has taken me since 8:30am this morning till now 11 pm to finish ONE glass of water =D
6. Twilights sequel New Moon wants to add celebs like Vanessa Hudgens
from High school musical and Dakota Fanning and amina says NO. DON'T DO
IT! Honestly... the movie sucks enough, there is no need for celebs to
make it worse. Stick to unknows pleaseee. PLEASSEEE.
7. February already? WHERE THE HELL IS TIME GOING!?
8. Seriously. If your going to ask for forgiveness after royally effing
up a relationship ::cough-cheating-cough:: what makes you think doing
it again would be a good idea!?... seriously?...SERIOUSLY!?
9. Brian and I entertained the idea of moving out and away from the
pressures of family at home. I concluded that i would be seen years
later with a beautiful and loyal husky, pierced nose and eyebrow as
well as a head full of red hair ::chuckles:: ... oh and as for the
important things... hopefully achieving my goals as a psychologist with
a PHD.
10. Ideally... IDEALLY wanted to be married by 23/24 =p but now
thinking back on it. Thats way too early. Im hitting 20 this year. I
think i need more then 3 or 4 years to be ready for that kind of
commitment. So 26/27 ::thumbs up:: Even then im not sure, but i know i
want to be married young... then again... emotionally im very
independent so i may be well into my thirties realistically speaking.
11. I saw a clip off of Wale's website (chk his profile for the link)
and saw this video of this child slapping and yelling at his mother to
"shut up". YEA NO. My parents woulda beat me to an inch of my life the
moment i even raised my voice at them. The kid was about 12 i think?
Noooo buddy. Thats not how my family plays. Respect. Honor. Discipline.
You DO NOT tell your parents to "shut up" and you DO NOT even THINK
about slapping them... or even raising your hand against them.
As Russell Peters once said "[[ to American parents]] you needa beat your children"
12. GWST 322 taught me the evils of Disney movies. Apparently they are
full of gender stereotypes, racism and sexism. "Disney hides behind the
innocence" This is some of what the filmed said:
- all the women are portrayed as extremely beautiful, thin, seductive, and well equipped for home ec.
- men are aggressive, heroic, charming and brave - must be the heros no
matter what - even the strong character of the female of mulan was
saved by the general
- women are helpless and need to be saved
- women use their body to manipulate men (examples- little mermaid and aladdin (when jasmine seduced jafar)
- The only Latinos in disney are chihuahuas
- Tarzan was in Africa yet there were no Africans only monkeys (implied) Thus white supremacy through tarzan "the white guy"
- Mulan is sexist - women are only good for marriage - the quote " your
daughter should learn how to speak in the presence of men"
- Aladdins opening song is racist
- Native American stereotypes of how they dress in big feather hats, live in teepees, hit their mouth and yell
- beauty and the beast teaches to forgive abuse
13. Finally saw the preview for the Street Fighter movie: The Legend of
Chun Li. I thought it looked terrible lls. But i grew up loving street
fighter... seen all the movies live action and animated. Watched all
the animated series... owned a few. Played all the games (even though i
was owned at each one of them) So yea. I think i will see it.
my only problem is... Where is the blue suit!?
